SUNSET GLOW

It started out a reference, how did it end up like this?

To improve her photography skills with manually setting DSLRs, Rachael started watching for clouds. Not just any clouds – they had to be dramatic, with solid form and interesting lighting. After all, that’s the kind of reference she needed.

The game changed when the sky turned a cascade of oranges and pinks, and the yellow sunset glow brought the surrounding nature to life. It became a challenge – to use just the right settings to give the shot enough exposure to capture the essence of the sunset and its vibrant hues, with minimal need of post-production. A cat-and-mouse game of timing and opportunity, that over time resulted in a greatly improved sense of lighting, framing and technical confidence.
