This project aimed to further develop familiarity with Indesign and skills in publication layout, by investigating the Korean “Hallyu” Wave subculture under the tutorship of Ned Culic. The 28-page publication experimented with grid formatting, laying out sourced text and imagery, and vector illustration (cover). Inspired by magazine spreads, the final product utilised a gloss paper stock.
It explored the formulaic nature of Korean pop bands, roles within groups (maknaes, leaders, visuals, dancers and rappers), the ever-changing visual appearance of individual idols, spoken languages of group members, comeback concepts and the rare rock band idol groups.
Client: Ned Culic (Monash University)
